How Did People in the Bible Live So Long

How Did People in the Bible Live So Long?

Many Bible stories tell us that people in the bible lived long lives. It is possible that humans were created with an unlimited lifespan and died only when they sinned, but this story does not support this theory. It does, however, suggest that the characters in the Exodus story lived extraordinary lives. This may be because the storytellers told us that they did. Besides, we can also read about their long lives in genealogical lists and other stories where age is a major factor.

    Lifespan of patriarchs before Flood

Despite the myth that the biblical patriarchs lived an infinite number of years, they only lasted 857 years on average. After the Flood, their lifespans fell to the lower hundreds. In fact, their average lifespans dwindled to around 600 years! How did this happen?

There are several theories that attempt to explain the claimed longevity of these patriarchs. Some use the Flood story to push back the date of creation. Others introduce a mathematical corrective and have patriarchs conceive children while they were still children. Other theories state that the “ages” of patriarchs are just indications of their influence and family line and do not fit in chronological eras or family trees.

According to the Old Testament scriptures, sin and death are intimately linked. Adam and Eve were warned that eating the forbidden fruit would result in death, both physically and spiritually. As their sin level increased, their lifespans began to decline. After the Flood, their lifespans dropped precipitously.

Various traditions in Judeo-Christianity, Christianity, and Islam consider the patriarchs to be buried at the Cave of the Patriarchs. However, Rachel is said to be buried separately at Rachel’s Tomb, as she died during childbirth. Patriarchs are a term that can refer to up to twenty male ancestors between Adam and Abraham. They are also called antediluvian patriarchs, which is an ancestor who lived before the Flood.

The lifespan of a patriarch before the Flood varied significantly. In the days before the Flood, most people lived for about a thousand years. However, after the flood, the average life span dropped to about 70 or 80 years. Therefore, the lifespan of a patriarch before the Flood was about eighty to ninety years.

There are various reasons why people who refuse to believe in the Bible cannot believe in it. The first few chapters of Genesis describe information prior to the Flood. There could have been a number of factors that contributed to the shorter life span of mankind after the Flood. Moreover, the biblical account mentions that the waters would destroy mankind after the Flood.

The Old Testament life span of patriarchs and rulers can be used to understand the ageing process. These life spans are not arbitrary or a product of the confabulation of the Hebrews, but are the product of a natural process. This process is called senescence, and it has several characteristics that determine the distribution of life spans.

    Climatic conditions

Ancient people in the Bible were known to live very long lives, but the exact reasons for their longevity remain a mystery. However, climatic conditions could have played a role. One possibility is that the earth was covered in a water vapor canopy, which would have produced a global greenhouse effect. This would have also shielded man from harmful radiation, which influences the aging process. But the water vapor canopy was destroyed by the Flood.

    Genetic mutations

One reason humans live long is genetic mutations. During the evolution of life, humans have accumulated genetic material from our ancestors, which is also known as our DNA. Genetic mutations are often harmful to the body, and they can lead to various diseases. However, there are many ways to delay genetic mutations, and some of them can even help prolong your life.

The Bible tells us that Adam lived for nine hundred and thirty years. This incredible lifespan makes many contemporary readers of Genesis balk at the claim. In fact, some of them reject the whole Bible altogether. However, researchers have found reasons to believe that lifespans began to drop after the Flood and declined over time according to a decay curve. This curve is similar to the biological decay curves caused by genetic mutation accumulation. Every generation, mutations add up and wear down our genetic information.
