Og was a mighty Amorite king
Og was an Amorite king who fought the Israelites during their journey to the Promised Land. Thankfully, the Israelites were able to defeat Og’s forces and take possession of Bashan, the fertile land east of the Jordan River. This victory was particularly significant because Og was a powerful giant, and the Israelite forces were relatively inexperienced.
According to the book of Deuteronomy, Og the king of Bashan was one of the last giants to fall to the Israelites. His kingdom was located east of the Jordan, around the river Arnon. Its plains extended eastwards to the sea of the plain.

The Bible mentions several giants – including Og, the king of Bashan. The word rephaim is derived from the Greek word titanes, which means “giant.” These creatures were said to be the offspring of fallen angels and human women, and were considered to be the greatest creations of the world. In some ancient cultures, they were referred to as Anakites.
The story of Og is also told in the Psalms. In Psalms 135:11 and 136:20, Og’s destruction is mentioned. In the Book of Amos 2:9, Og is called “the Amorite.”
He sought to bring about the death of Abraham
The story of Abraham begins when he was a youth, in the year 48 BCE. The son of Terah, general of the army of Nimrod, and Amtelai, the daughter of Carnebo, Abraham was born in Ur of the Chaldees. His followers urged the king to kill the young man. However, Terah’s followers convinced the king not to do so, and they were compensated with a generous sum of money.
Nimrod sought to kill Abraham for his own selfish motives. He had been warned by the soothsayers that a great nation would rise up and subdue Nimrod and occupy all the heaven and earth. Abraham was aware of this prophecy, and Terah, who aided him in the decision, was swayed by it and decided to follow his advice.

The Book of Numbers introduces us to the Amorite king Og. His kingdom was spread across the area of Transjordan. It was home to 60 walled cities and many smaller ones. His capital was Ashtaroth, modern-day Tell Ashareh. Other biblical texts describe his destruction, including Psalms 1:15 and 136:20. Similarly, Amos 2:9 mentions Og as an Amorite.
Og was the last of the Rephaites. He was tall and strong. His thighbone measured three parsangs, or about a mile and a half. The Bible also says that Moses killed Og because of his pride.
